What is our purpose in life? How can we be sure? In The Essence of Life and Materialistic Things, I wrote about empty voids we all experience. We feel like something is missing. Even when we have it all, internal happiness is still a struggle to obtain. We could all be millionaires and drown ourselves in lavish things but when it really comes down to it, some of us feel lonely or there is this longing for something bigger than ourselves but we do not know what it is. These two blogs touched on different aspects of what could be missing and what can be done to change that. However, there are things that needs clarifications so I can present to you the full scope of these issues we face. Let’s begin!
Our purpose in life could be hard to determine when we have SO MUCH we want to accomplish. It’s overwhelming at times. We want to be an astronaut, actress, lawyer, artist, nurse, etc. – all at the same time. We have different interests that could potentially make us want to start a new project without finishing up older ones. My friends, that is because we are still trying to find our place in this world. We’re indecisive and we want to experiment with ideas just to test the waters. To get our feet wet with various projects that can potentially lead us to our “Purpose in Life.”
Finding our purpose in life takes great pondering and consideration. What if we don’t find that lucrative career or start that small business? What kind of career choice will make me feel excited just thinking about it? Hmmm…. And don’t take advice from relatives and/or friends either. Just because a certain path worked out for them, doesn’t mean it’ll work for you. Yes, it is good to have options but don’t tie yourself down to a certain idea because someone suggested it.
Now, we all want to accomplish certain goals we set for ourselves. But what if those goals were not a part of our purpose in life? My friends, to me, we will never truly understand why we are put in this world if we do not reach out to the Creator of the Universe – God. I do not know how many times I’ve seen people who look well off and are living big but are suffering emotionally. They are in deep despair. Life isn’t fun anymore. If God isn’t a part of our success in ALL areas, it will be extremely difficult to navigate in this world alone. We will constantly be searching for the next big thing but always come up unsatisfied when we accomplish them in the end. Or sometimes – we hit rock bottom. That business did not take off. We’re drowning in debt from school loans because of a certain career choice that wasn’t profitable. We made poor investments. No luck in finding a decent job. We feel emotionally drained and/or alone. Mentally, we’re not in safe space. It happens. But when it comes down to our purpose in life, trying to figure it out on our own, will leave us searching endlessly.
We need a direction.
Pointers.
Signs that we’re on the right path.
Opinions.
Weighing out certain choices.
Sleeping on it. Praying about it. But the number one thing we must do is trust God to lead us there.
Trusting God
Trusting God to take hold of our lives will be one of the best things we can do. After all, He is the Lord and He knows all things. You see, if we do it on our own, we will have problems along the way. And we might end up failing altogether. It’s inevitable. Sometimes we’re not knowledgeable about what is best for us. That is why we take risks – to see if something good will come out of it. Taking risks is a luxury we all cannot afford. Especially if we’re barely surviving from paycheck to paycheck. We need a solid plan. A strategy that will work every single time. That is where God comes in.
If we allow Him to take control, there will be ideas that randomly pops up in our heads. New adventurous ideas that makes us happy and/or gives us results that are satisfying. Heck, that is how I’m able to write all these blogs! This is not solely from me. What I write down is an inspiration from God and a love for Him. A love for writing. Last but definitely not least, it is also about connecting with all of you as well!
Trust me, the way my brain starts to work when I write these blogs, you would think I’m plagiarizing or I’m getting help from other people (which I don’t and which I’m not). I let these ideas flow from my brain to my fingers and I let y’all decide if it’s something worth reading! I’m hoping it is. Anyways, back to us :).
God speaks to us in certain ways but it is up to us to want to listen (God’s Existence). The Lord wants to be a part of our lives because He knows what is best for us. He knows the kind of people we’ll run into. People that will only bring us destruction and financial ruins. People who are involved in criminal activities and will lead us down the wrong path (Genuine or Deceptive). My friends, the Lord will never deceive you. That will make Him impure. A liar. But He is Holy. The King of Kings. It is not within His Spiritual Essence to bring havoc into our lives. However, if we ignore Him long enough, He will make His presence felt with a BOOM. But let’s get into the next section.
I brought up how we first need to allow God to take control in order to guide us to what our purpose in life is. Sometimes it’s more than one thing that we have to accomplish in this physical life. But there’s another way to know that we’re on the right track. Here it goes –
Fruition and Happiness
If whatever it is that we’re doing – brings fruition. If we are seeing success in our business or in our personal lives, we’re on the right track. If our labor is producing promising results and WE’RE HAPPY doing it, that is how we know that we are fulfilling our life’s purpose. If everything is going correctly and we feel at peace with what we’ve accomplished and what is yet to come, our purpose in life is being fulfilled. The Lord is working in our favor.
We don’t feel that empty void because when we think about what we’re doing, it brings genuine bliss and joy. And to make a profit out of it is a sure indication that we are on the winning team! If that joy is able to keep us optimistic through difficult circumstances, we know that it is the Lord who is making that possible. If we’re going through issues and we’re so focused on what is wrong, we’ll miss out on opportunities the Lord tried to get our attention with. My friends, there are better days to come.
However, if what we like doing does not bring fruition, it could be that it is not the right time. It could be that we need to be consistent and determined with a certain project before we see positive results. That is why patience is highly important. Rushing things will be our downfall. I also highly disapprove in rushing God. Even though it feels overwhelming that things are not going according to plan, we must remember that God is in control and have faith in that. We’ll get there. Some get there quicker than others but do not be discouraged. We are all different. If we measure our success by comparing ourselves to other people, we’ll never be happy (Jealousy and Envy). We must be grateful and remember that there are others out here in this world fighting for their lives everyday in a hospital bed. Or the less fortunate who are scavenging, trying to find where their next meal is coming from.
My friends, we must be grateful. It could be worse. That is why I am eternally and genuinely thankful to have the Lord in my life. Seeing what He has done for me and what He will continue to do for me, is all the assurance I need to further dedicate my life to honoring Him.
However, we must be able to discern between what is our purpose in life and what we like doing. If what we like doing is plagued with signs that are hard to ignore, maybe it is time to put that project on pause. Or turn it into a leisure-like activity. A hobby of some sort. Some of us push through discrepancies, thinking it is just a little bump on the road. Be mindful. That could be God trying to alert us that there is something wrong. It gets tricky but that is why we must pray on it. Sleep on it. Really consider all the options. If the bad outweighs the good, see if these are problems that can be fixed. If not, maybe it’s time to venture out to explore new projects/businesses.
Life is all about trials and errors. Nothing in life is perfect. We have limitations. But it is up to us to make the most out of those limitations. With God, those limitations will continue to expand if we truly believe in Him. That is why having faith is also important. It is easier to give up and turn away than to persevere. Life has so many twists and turns but staying grounded in our faith, will yield great results. There is ALWAYS a way with Him.
